
A Muslim woman was the subject of intolerance during a lecture at Bar Ilan University, located in the city of Ramat Gan, Israel. A male professor ordered the hijabi to remove her headscarf, the student refused to do so and the lecturer ordered the student out of the classroom.
The incident occurred last week, the lecturer was teaching under Bar Ilan University's Department of Middle Eastern Studies. The lecturer who has remained unnamed, demanded one of his Arab students to remove her hijab. the student refused the pressures of the lecturer, in doing so she was removed from the classroom.
The lecturer later apologized to the student but the university after he was reprimanded by the university management. the university management decided the apology was not substantial enough and have decided to order the professor to redo the apology in front of his class.
The university has received public pressure to fire the lecturer, in turn, the teacher will face a hearing form the university disciplinary committee that will decide his professional future.
Bar Ilan University said in a statement: “The lecturer’s behavior is unacceptable and completely at odds with the university’s values. The university administration has apologized to the student and the lecturer has been severely reprimanded. The university regrets this unfortunate incident [in a place which is supposed] to be a bridge which unites all parts of Israeli society.”
