On Tuesday, May 2nd, 31-year-old substitute teacher Oghenetega Edah, working at the Bennington School, Bronx, New York, was fired after he allegedly ripped off an 8-year-old girl's hijab causing a scratch on her eye.
The incident began at approximately 1:00 pm when second grader Safa Alzockary was allegedly misbehaving and sitting in the teacher's chair without the substitute teacher's permission. Edah threatened the 8-year-old before pulling her hijab down her face causing a scratch on her eye.
Due to the irritation on her eye caused by the assault, she was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, after careful examination, the doctor declared that Safa would not suffer and permanent damage from the attack.
The teacher was fired after the incident, the Department of Education said in a statement, “This alleged behavior is completely unacceptable," The teacher was fired the day after on May 3rd, "This individual was removed from the school immediately and his employment has been terminated.”
